The picturesque village of Pontcirq in the Lot department

For many people looking to escape the tourist crowds of the Dordogne, the area along the Lot is an excellent alternative. This river is just three junctions away and is a little quieter. This beautiful region also has plenty to offer. As well as the stunning town of Cahors and the pilgrimage site of Rocamadour, the region is home to some of France’s most beautiful caves. What’s more, the food is delicious and the climate is pleasant. It can be warm, but it’s almost never as hot as in the south. The landscape is lovely and, at times, spectacular. It’s also a great place for cycling and walking, and there’s plenty to do on the water. And, of course, there are the many charming villages and lively markets in this region.
